From Revolving doors: Who’s opening; who’s closing; what’s next: Babylon: Enter Morrocan food in downtown Raleigh – with swank to boot… Restaurant. Lounge. Poolside. Now officially open with one of the largest patio spots in the city.
More on Babylon—Without a complete website – all the buzz about Babylon is just buzz – no one seems to know what it’s all about. So took a gander… here’s the update.
Word is it’s owned by the same peeps as Mosaic (off Glenwood South, across from 518). Checked it out the other night… the patio is sexy and almost makes you feel like you left Raleigh for a bit – maybe minus the view opposite the quintessential Days Inn on Dawson. The food is good, albeit a bit on the pricey side, and the menu is small – divided into a few small plates from $6-$16 (skewers, couscous variety, seafood brewat, a few small pizza options) and entrees around the $15-24 range (lamb, veal, chicken etc). The bar was fast. The service was excellent. And the Buzzard Tree Syrah is def worth a dram or two and the dollars to boot. They plan to add lunch and brunch options soon.
Note – if you go to check it out, it’s 309 North* Dawson – not South*. Everybody kept roaming the streets by Firestone/White Collar. And it can be hard to find on North Dawson if you don’t know what you’re looking for. But where Capital/Downtown Blvd. becomes Dawson, rounding the corner into downtown – just past Peace Street exit – take a hard look to the right and you’ll see a little sign that says Babylon Restaurant with an arrow to a big parking lot. (Across from the Days Inn).
Sexy spot. Worth checking out at least once. Even if just for drinks and/or apps on the poolside patio. Sneak peak: Babylon Full Menu and snaps:
